3 Questions to Ask Mid-Year

The middle of the year is a great time for self-reflection. It is a time to celebrate what God’s done so far. It’s also a great time to course correct - there’s so much time left to carry out your calling this year!

Here are three simple questions to ask yourself as you look at the rest of your year of ministry:

What is bearing fruit?

As you reflect on the past six months, what does it seem like the Lord has His hand on?

Is there something you’ve undertaken that has borne much fruit?

Have you made an effort to be more present at home? Have you tweaked a rehearsal time? Have you prioritized your time with certain staff or volunteers?

Whatever is bearing fruit, continue to prioritize that in the next six months.

Pray: Lord, thank You for what You’ve blessed so far this year. Give me eyes to see where and how You’re working and give me the courage to continue to pursue it.

What feels like a giant weight?

Is there something in your life that you are carrying into midyear that feels heavy?

Is there relational tension? A lack of intentionality with your schedule? A circumstance that feels all-consuming?

There’s a two-part encouragement here. Depending on your particular heaviness, there is a call to either fix or to surrender.

So, is there something in your life that needs to be fixed or changed?
- Forgiveness sought?
- Forgiveness given?
- Saying “no” more?
- Saying “yes” more?
- Cutting things out?
- Adding things in?

And is there something that needs to be surrendered?
- Health Issues?
- Sleeplessness/exhaustion with young kids?
- Disappointment/discouragement?
- The unknown next step?

Pray: Lord, You know all things. You know, better than I, what weighs me down. Where a bold next step is necessary, I ask for the courage. Wherever I feel most out of control, I ask for Your peace.

Am I looking at the rest of the year with anticipation or dread?

Lastly, does looking at the rest of the year excite you or exhaust you?

If you’re looking at the rest of the year and feeling a sense of dread, it may be time for you to recalibrate and ask further questions:

- am I still motivated by the Gospel?
- does my job feel like its on autopilot? why?
- what is the Lord up to in my life and ministry?
- is this becoming too much about me?

If you are feeling less than motivated for the ministry ahead, it may just be time to pause and ask a few good questions.

If we go long periods of time without asking the questions above, it’s easy to drift into monotony.

But the truth is that the Lord is, right now, actively calling people in your community into repentance and faith. He is actively restoring wanderers and comforting the brokenhearted.

And that is what He has invited you into.

Pray: Lord, thank You for allowing me to join in on Your mission to seek and save the lost. Give me fresh vision and perspective to perceive what You’re doing and give my all to it in the way You have uniquely created me to.
