4 Ways to Evaluate Last Weekend

This is one of hardest questions to answer: how do you know you’re leading well? We have to ask it - not to fuel our egos but to grow as leaders and shepherd well!

Here are four simple questions to ask yourself at the end of every weekend:

  1. Were the songs you sang true?

As you think about the words your church sang together, do they align with and are they supported by the truth revealed in Scripture?

  2. Was Jesus the center of attention?

There’s lots happening on a Sunday - lights, songs, transitions, etc. It can be easy to miss the main thing. Can you look back on the weekend and confidently say that Jesus was the main event, the main attraction, and the main focus of your gathering?

  3. Were people engaged?

While we don’t have control over whether or not people sing along, we do have control over our own leadership and the environment we create. Did people know the songs in the set and could they sing them? Were they invited and encouraged to participate?

  4. Were you and your team prepared spiritually and musically to lead?

Did your team have the resources they needed with enough time to prepare? How did you show up on Sunday? Was the last time you worshipped Jesus the Sunday before? Was your heart engaged?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to these four questions, you should feel good about last Sunday.

How are you, really?

This is yet another tough question to answer. But we’d love to help!

We actually think asking this question for themselves is one of the most important things for worship leaders to do regularly.

To help, we created a 100% FREE 5 min self-assessment to help you ask some really good questions. Are you rested? How is your heart holding up? Do you feel trusted in your ministry role and are you trustworthy?

Start exploring that for yourself today here.

The Authenticity of Worship

“We live in what one writer has called the ‘age of sensation.' We think that if we don't feel something there can be no authenticity in doing it. But the wisdom of God says something different: that we can act ourselves into a new way of feeling much quicker than we can feel ourselves into a new way of acting. Worship is an act that develops feelings for God, not a feeling for God that is expressed in an act of worship.”
