4 Things to Do When You Feel Stuck/Discouraged

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.” - Psalm 37:3

God’s Word has lots to say to the stuck and discouraged - which should tell us that feeling this way at times is just a part of life. Here are 4 things we can apply from Psalm 37:3 when we don’t seem to be making progress anywhere.

1. Trust in the Lord

God is aware of you in this very moment and is working all things for His purposes. Accept the invitation to “cast your burdens on the Lord and He will sustain you.” (Ps. 55:22). God is not surprised by the struggle or the challenge. He will supply all of your needs (Phil 4:19).

2. Do Good

One way to start becoming “unstuck” is to make our focus obedience and service. Discouragement keeps you looking inward. One of the best things to do in these seasons is to keep looking upward and outward - upward towards the Lord and outward to others. If you’re not sure what to do next, obedience to the Lord and looking for ways to meet the needs of others is a wonderful start.

3. Dwell in the Land

This is one of the most challenging, yet potentially most rewarding things to do when you feel stuck or discouraged - stay. Our knee jerk reaction is so often to get relief as quickly as possible. But what if relief will rob you of the blessing of what God wants to do in you during this season? Dwell in the land. Learn to live in your discouragement or your stuck season.

*If your situation is harmful, a result of sin, or destructive in any manner, this may not be the right encouragement for you.

4. Befriend Faithfulness

Make friends with faithfulness. Let faithfulness be found beside you.

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” - Proverbs 3:3

Let blamelessness and faithfulness be the aim of this season for you.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” - Colossians 3:23

Start Getting Unstuck

Stuck is a bad place to be. Knowing how you’re really doing on the inside is a crucial step to making sure you don’t end up like Mr. Squirrel down there (metaphorically speaking, of course).

More often than not, getting unstuck starts with awareness of your overall health. That’s why we’re offering you a free Health Check that takes 5 minutes to complete but will give you an inside look at how you’re doing. It could be the best 5 minutes of your week (and keep you out of the bird feeder). Take the Health Check today!
