that went great

... now what?

Ah, if only every weekend went as well as this last one did for you (hopefully)… since there’s no copy and paste button for this Sunday, how do you approach the next weekend? We’ve got some ideas…

3 Things to Do After a Good Weekend

If this past weekend went really well for you, there are probably two feelings you’re having: joy and maybe a little bit of pressure! How do we make sure this Sunday is as good as the last?

Here are three things faithful worship leaders can do to prepare for next Sunday:

1. Praise the Lord

Duh. But really. Don’t skip this one. 1 Corinthians 3 tells us a lot about what we need to know about last Sunday:

“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” - 1 Corinthians 3:7

The reality is that no matter how well you play, plan, or prepare, any good thing that happens does so because God is involved and doing something. Not only does that take the pressure off of us, it also should create humility, awe, and wonder. We get to partner with God.

2. Think About What Went Well

While God is responsible for all of the growth that happens, we are responsible for all that we put forth on a Sunday.

So, was there anything practical that helped the weekend go well? A change in flow? A certain song that people responded well to? A helpful pre-service meeting or a new volunteer?

The Lord uses all of these things and by paying attention to what is working, we can better partner with what He’s doing.

3. Thank & Encourage Staff / Volunteers

Whenever you notice something done well on a Sunday by someone else, let them know about it. Too often we assume that our volunteers know how much we appreciate them.

When you take the time to encourage a volunteer, your tech director, or anyone else involved on a Sunday, you remind them that they aren’t a cog in the wheel - they aren’t a means to an end. They, along with you, are partnering with the God of the universe to put Jesus on display.

If you hear stories of what the Lord is doing in your church through the Sunday gathering, make sure your volunteers hear about them!

Broken Gas Gauge

Many of us have that friend whose car has a broken gas gauge. Which means they always think they have more gas in the tank than they actually do. Which means you’ve probably pushed their car to the nearest gas station at some point…

Without an accurate and reliable way to gauge our own capacities, it’s easier than most people think to find ourselves broken down and in need of some help. So, how do we make sure we know where we’re at? We have to ask the right questions!
