1 Simple Truth for a New Year
Psalm 56 is a declaration of trust in God from David. His trust is resolute. It appears confident and unwavering. The repeated refrain is this: “in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
David believes this about God:
“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in Your book?”
This new year of life and ministry will require trust in the Lord. But there is one lynchpin in this psalm. There’s one axis on which this resolute trust sits. There’s one belief that David holds that enables Him to put His trust in God.
“This I know, that God is for me.” (56:9b)
David believed this. God was for Him.
Throughout so many conversations this year with leaders, the question is not:
Is God able?
Does God see?
Is He trustworthy?
The underlying question we tend to wrestle with is: is God for me? We believe He is for everyone else. But is He for me?
As you wake up to a new year, this is the battleground. You have an Enemy that works hard to get you to believe that God deeply cares about and is working on behalf of all the people you are ministering to, but just not for you.
There are times in ministry where we are so good at believing in the grace, goodness, and lovingkindness of God for others but so slow to believe that He is those things for us as well.
So, do you want 2025 to be marked by trust, faithfulness, and fruit? We do. And the simplest way to fight for that is this:
As your alarm goes off each morning, don’t leave your bed until you’ve reminded yourself and believe that God is for you. He delights in you. He sees you. He is with you.
Your 2025 Starting Point
The beginning of a new year presents the perfect opportunity to pause and take some inventory. How are you doing as you enter another calendar year of full-time ministry?
The years go so fast that we often have trouble honestly answering that question. Sometimes, we aren’t even sure what questions to ask.

“The eyes of the Lord thy God are always upon thee, O believer, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.”
