5 Ways to Appreciate Volunteers at Christmastime
There are a lot of things that get added to your plate this time of year… but don’t move this to make room for something else. How you appreciate those who serve with you will shape the culture of your ministry!
Here are ways to appreciate your volunteers:
Tell them.
While obvious, when was the last time you actually told an individual volunteer how much their faithfulness and service means to you?Personal, hand-written Thank You cards.
We all know the feeling of getting something thoughtful and hand-written from someone we love and respect. Taking the time to do this would be meaningful to your volunteers.
Included in this could be a small gift like a gift card or something personal. Hint: there should be a church line item for this!Host a Christmas Party / Dinner
There are so many extra events happening in December. We get it. But there’s something special that happens when you gather your whole team together and SERVE them.
Often, these are fun times focused just on being together and enjoying one another. No planning. No strategizing. Just hanging.Give them a voice.
Christmastime means it is the end of the year. One way to show how much you value your volunteers at the end of the year is to give them a chance to give some feedback on your leadership and the worship ministry.
This doesn’t mean your committing to delegate your leadership. But it gives people a chance to be heard and can lead to some good conversations with volunteers.Christmas Eve Service Hospitality
Christmas Eve is a large commitment! While you do have so much on your plate, going all out to make your volunteers feel appreciated on this day will not go unnoticed.
This could look like getting creative with gift bags as they arrive, a special meal for them, etc. We’ll leave that to you. But let them know how much their time means to you during the Christmas season!

“A prison cell, in which one waits [and] hopes – and is completely dependent on the fact that the door of freedom has to be opened from the outside, is not a bad picture of Advent.”
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
